Um I live at 83 US Route 4. This is my
daughter, Brooke. She lives at 47 US US
Route 118. Um my grandchildren are new
to the district. Um they came in at the
end of last year. I have a week third
grade grandson, going to be fifth grade
granddaughter.
Um we have some concerns about where
they are supposed to be picked up and
dropped off for the bus.
>> Do you have a bus stop request, right?
>> We do.
>> Yeah, we have it in our agenda, right?
>> Yep. That's right.
>> Um the concerns are that having my
grandchildren walk up 118 to Jake's and
cross the street is not safe. Waiting in
the Jake's parking lot is not safe.
Um having them cross the street up to
four times to get on and off the bus
to us is not safe. So, I would love to
have my grandchildren be picked up on
the right side of the road at their
home.
Um my daughter is willing to have the
children that live in the apartment
building next to her wait in her
driveway if that

of bus stops.
Um
so, yeah, that's that's about it.

All right, and so we're going to deal
with that when we get down later in our

up next in our
agenda we have a superintendent's
report. I spoke with Amanda this
morning, she could not make it today,
she had a prior engagement and
unfortunately, I guess
good for her honestly, she should at
least take one night off. So,
you see her report there in the packet.
The main thing in her report was talking
about bus routes and going back to
single buses
because we are short three full-time
drivers
as we've discussed here in the board
level and finance facilities
plenty of times on that
that will be plenty of opportunities to
get credit from Butlers for whatever
routes that are not being contractually
delivered, so we'll stay on top of that.
The other thing that she says here is
there's a policy JICK
bullying prevention and this is one that
we have to bypass first reading and go
straight to second reading and adoption
because it is
related to a state law that changed.
And the other thing on here is that due
to another change in state law we'll
have to find a new budget committee
member for Dorchester this fall cuz
nobody employed on any kind of basis by
an SAU or school district can serve on a
board school board or school budget
committee. So,
tough for small towns, that's what I'll
say to that. So,

missed that Amanda wanted to say?

Audit Audit has started for FY26, this
is our last year with Roberge,
so we started sending them the required
documents and that will be scheduled
sometime later. Usually about October,
November, he he schedules his uh
his day
with the SNHU office.
I brought up the year-end unassigned um
funds. We did
give the approval to retain up to the
650.
I would like to uh ask for to approve to
retain an additional 300,000, which will
bring it up to 950. The reasoning behind
this is the three
um out of district students that were
not budgeted.
We would like to
estimate about 100,000 each for these.
We've got the money to do it for
year-end expenses instead of pulling it
out of the special aid capital reserve
and saving that in case we get another
really high out of placement.
>> And maybe extra.
>> Yeah, we can't do this now.
>> All right.

>> Uh no, that's uh all on your end, so

I'm going to make a motion that we uh
retain an additional $300,000
in addition to the 650 we've already

Yeah, that one still doesn't have a
driver listed, but it has a bus assigned
to it, so that's good.

us yet. So, I think they're just waiting
cuz lots of phone calls because online
registration went out.
>> There's been lots and we've asked people
since the last meeting when it was
approved by the board for them to review
bus routes. So, I know the schools have
been getting phone calls um about adding
stops or about kids that won't be
needing them anymore. So, I'm sure
they're waiting um to put out new routes
until just before school starts.

rather have that so that we can have
more information instead of just like

for some people, but we'll get it
settled by the second day, I'm sure of

is why it's important to have parents on

approval process is only for bus stops

Kamala's Kamala's saying that if if the
there's already a bus stop here, which
there is a stop here at the high school,
essentially from the elementary to the
high school
they're not creating a new stop, so it
should be approved, but I see what
you're saying. Like you don't know.

my kids on bus block four.

>> My kids, I mean, for the years I was
here during elementary school, they
always took the bus. Yeah, there's from
here in the morning and then back

a little easier now because buses will

um
policy new business policy JICK bullying
prevention. So I'm going to make a
motion that we waive first reading and
go right into second reading and
adoption of policy JICK as presented

Um so this has some updates with state
law. This just came in the state law
went into effect August 1st, so we need
to have this in place hence the update
as the urgency behind it. So it does
have you know definitions. This is the
standard um New Hampshire School Board
Association one. Um they did really
press for us to adopt this um soon
because of the consequence because of
the requirements uh around bullying and
bullying reports and things like that.
Amanda spelled out a little bit of the
changes, but I'm not I can't I'm going
to be honest I'm not 100% sure. I think
it has to do with filing and things like
that. Filing reports with the state and
stuff like that. So
any discussion or questions or something
you saw on this like woah.
It's not that much different than our
current one.
>> Yeah, I I I've just spoke for I'm
certainly not an expert on bullying, but
it seemed like it was very thorough to
me. But one question that arose for me
as I'm reading through this with the
recent passage of SB 430
uh
how does that play in if it's if it's a
bullying incident and I'm probably
preaching to the choir and I don't think
there's anything we can do about it, but
if if an incident involves some of the
items that are covered in that bill and
then a teacher is obligated to then
report to a parent are we not
potentially exacerbating the bullying?
>> Yeah, you'd think so. That's a good
question.
>> It's just you [clears throat] know
it's just kind of
to put it on the on the
on the record.
>> Definitely.
>> I can't do anything about it because of
the state law, but but that's just
something that struck me as I was
reading through it.
Although I thought it seemed very
thorough.
>> Yeah, for sure. And I you know I'm glad
we have I mean I hope Stephanie is here
sensitive to things like that we can
thread that needle, but you're right it
is it is a
>> I mean there's training every year on
bullying. Yeah, at least there is
pressure.
You get bullied into taking your
training on bullying.

that crosses with Title IX here as well.
So there's going to be that fine line of
determining is it actually bullying or
is it Title IX?

where do you go with it?

Don't run a foul of state law. That can
do some things to the best of the way,
you know, do a little more caring and
stuff, so.
All right, next up, this is just a
review because in the early in the
sudden shift to putting all the kids on
the same bus now,
I asked Amanda say could we review our
policy about student conduct on school
buses because we want to make sure that
that was like ready to go, that was set,
and we didn't have anything anything in
that because now we're going to be
mixing older kids with younger kids.
We just wanted to make sure that this
was okay for people.
Just kind of put a pin in it for
people's awareness. And you have in here
the printed out from the
student handbooks at the high school,
the middle school, and the elementary
schools match each other, so this one's
for the CES, but they should match, so.
Yeah, any comments, discussion on this?
I didn't have anything specific on the
policy that I felt we should address,
but I just wanted to give everyone an
opportunity to have a look at it and
make sure
one thing that I noticed in the
guidelines is that I like how the
elementary school spelled out the
consequences. So, the first warning,
first write up, second write up, third
write up.
I think in future guide or your
handbooks for older kids, I think that
would help, too. Just kind of spelling
it out for them like this is your steps,
this is what you This is your
consequences, so.
I mean, they're thorough, it, I like how
plain it is at the elementary level. So.
>> Do we know if we still have um we've had
people on the buses as monitors. Are we
still doing that? Will that become more
prevalent?
>> That was a question I had for Amanda
earlier. Um she's going to check with
Sierra on that um because that was a
concern. Like, you know, what's
happening and maybe we have, you know,
maybe Butler can have like one or two
chaperones or bus monitors who can, you
know, be on a problem bus, an issue bus,
or, you know, hop back and forth between
ones depending on the week or whatever.
So, yeah, I did ask her that and she's
going to check with Sierra on that for
us.
Anything else on

procedures and stuff?

revisit that at some point.

requests. So, thank you for coming out

So, ideally, we would like the children

have other children wait there as well

grandchildren are friends with those
kids, so Brooke can very easily talk to
the mom.

driver.
>> And it's not just my kids that are
safety concerned. I think no kid should
be waiting at the gas station.
>> I I I agree. There's no crosswalks.
There's no sidewalks, you know.
>> parking lot is a nightmare.
>> Yeah. Oh, yeah. I don't want the kids to
hang out in the gas station parking lot,
right? You know? Like
>> And there's two parking spots like
literally right where the kids would be
waiting.
So, it's just it's just not an ideal
situation. And they're not old enough to
walk,
you know, and wait by themselves if by
chance she can't wait with them.

it's just it's just not safe.
>> No, I I [laughter] totally agree. And
then you know, if there were sidewalks
and crosswalks, it'd be a totally
different story.
>> safe way for them to cross 118.
>> Drivers don't pay attention. They don't
do the speed limit. There's Even though
the police station is right there,
nobody cares. Like it's just not it's
just I not an ideal situation at all for
anybody's children. Not only my
grandchildren, but not anybody's.

that, you know, the I think yes,
consolidation of stops is what we were
going for, especially in that village
area because, you know, you stop and
then 50 50 do do.
>> I love I love the idea of being like
your neighbors on that side of the
street. That's awesome. Like yeah, so

of the kids play in my yard.

But yeah, I think we can keep one on the
Jake side for kids that maybe live in
the the apartments on the the houses on
that side and then do one on your side.

end of the day, I think at the last
stop. Okay, so we just add this as a
regular stop and they'll get they'll

actually increased the penalties this
year for for breaking that cuz it was
only like a $500 fine for like the third
offense. And that was it.

son-in-law can actually cross the street
and wait by their mailbox and wait for
the kids to get dropped off so they're
walking across the

>> with them.

>> Once they cross, it's much safer than
before.

yeah, and that'll kind of help slow
traffic down, too. Just yeah, so. All
