project across the district schools.
So, Madam Chair, the request is coming
from um it with Danbury closing so close
to the end of the year. Um they are
looking to um recover the the the cost
for well for actually um taking the 19
security cameras out of Danbury uh and
then fixing the uh access door at the
middle school. So the removal of the
equipment from Danbury was $3510
and the installation of the access
control systems at Newfound Memorial
Middle School were $6,695.97
uh so $6,000 $695.97.
So the total project costs are $10,25
uh.97.
Um and it allows us to recoup those uh
devices and use them again. um but also
fixing the security at the middle school
which is greatly needed.

a correspondence from Deborah Alward
from um Danbury. Dear members of the New
Foundary School Board, I'm writing to
[clears throat] request a correction of
to the minutes of the August 10th school
board meeting which I attended. During
the public comment portion of that
meeting, Audrey Pelro, an organizer of
the Danbury Chartered Public School,
addressed the board. Among the subjects
she discussed were the proposed charter
school application passing legal status
and the possible applicability of House
Bill 1374 to the situation involving
Danbury Elementary School building. She
made other comments, but due to poor
acoustics, I was unable to hear them. I
have reviewed the posted minutes and do
not find Miss Pelgrino's appearance or
the subject matter of her comments that
sounded as if related to agenda item uh
15 b new business a Danbury school
building updates and lengthy report
referred to by Mr. Lammani where charter
schools were mentioned reflected in
them. RSA 9122
requires meeting minutes to include the
names of persons appearing before a
public body and a brief description of
the subject matter discussed. The
statute does not require transcript of a
person's comments, but the fact that the
person appeared in the general subject
discussed should be reflected in the
minutes. I therefore respectfully
request that the August 10th, 2026
minutes be corrected to reflect that
Audrey Pelgro appeared during public
comment and spoke regarding the Danbury
Charter School, its legal status, and
the possible applicability of House Bill
1374 to the Danbury Elementary School
matter. This is particularly important
because the legal status of Danbury
Elementary School and the effect, if
any, of House Bill 1374 are now relevant
to the continuing public discussion
regarding the school and its building.
The official minute should accurately
reflect that these issues were raised
publicly at the August 10th meeting. I
would also appreciate confirmation that
the correction will be presented to the
board and if approved, incorporated into
the official posts. Thank you for your

>> All right. So, start off on Friday. We
have the senior classes, senior sunrise,
which we'll be holding in Bristol on top
of Inspiration Point. Um, it starts at
5:45 in the morning and there's going to
be snacks, food, and drinks being given
out to the students who decide to go to
it. Looking forward to that a lot. Um we
have one week until the school year. Uh
throughout the last week we've had
tryyous practices and um Jamberees held
for the teams. On last Saturday, field
hockey, boys soccer, and volleyball all
faced off at away games playing do
Lynwood and NHTI conquered. Um on the
27th, cross country, field hockey, and
boy soccer have more away jambaries and
girls soccer as a home match here at the
school. Um,
not really much else. We're I'm just
really excited for the school year to
start up. I'm excited to start theater
again. Um, it'll be good to be back.

welcomed uh six new staff members, did a
orientation with them, went through with
them, you know, the ins and outs of the
district. It was really fun um to see
the to meet them and and and spend some
time with them and and see their
excitement and passion um for their new
roles here in Newfound. Um just want to
remind the board that open house, right?
Open house is nice and early this year.
Uh September 9th at the uh uh Newfound
Elementary School, Bristol. Uh the 10th
at the middle school. Um
the 16th at
what was that one?
This the at the high school the 17th and
um Newfound Elementary New Hampton is on
the um um 17th as well from 6:00 to 7.
Um as Matteo said, the sports are
underway which is great. um at the
Danbury um is just about emptied of all
of the things. The the last bit of it
will be taken care of this week. The the
stuff that is going to be used um with
the transition uh will be out of the
building. Um
the new ballards were installed a couple
of weeks ago at the middle school that
which prevent um the the vehicles from
the parking lot to enter the new grass
off playground area for our fifth
graders over at the middle school. Uh,
we just need to get them painted because
they look like concrete.
The penny sale, the penny sale was a
great success. Uh, I I will tell you as
my first penny sale person, I am amazed
by the amount of support and just the
whole experience. It was pretty
impressive. So, it was pretty fun. Uh,
new fire panel has been installed here
at the high school and you can hear the
beeping. Uh they're still fine-tuning uh
things, but it should be all good. Uh
we'll have our final run through this
week uh with the fire department. Um the
power the the power of the pumps has
been installed. We're now waiting on um
the the finishing things down at the
field hockey field to get the water up
from the well to the field. So that is
ongoing.
um uh at um Newfound Elementary School
at Bristol, the uh mo the bulk of that
work has been done. They just need to
now go in and finish with some of the
grout work and some of the mason work
underneath, but the fortifications have
all been done and it it's ready to rock
and roll. Uh in that vein, the all the
buildings have had their deep cleanings
done and their general cleanings and
they look wonderful. Uh it's hard to see
again the lights are out tonight here,
but the the buildings do look very very
they look great. Now it's just putting
things back together and welcoming our
students uh next Monday.
Um
and I I I visited the schools and
visited with classroom teachers who were
in early uh last week uh setting up
their rooms and they're excited to
return. Um I think in general uh
students are parents are excited for
their students, their children to go
back to school. Uh and certainly the
teachers and the rest of the staff are
excited to get back into our routines.
Um I did reach out uh in terms of the
transportation. I can get to that later.
Um and that's all I got. We're we're
excited. Tomorrow we're we're um we're
having our our welcome back

New Hampton School this morning and Mary

Um, do you want me to I mean, I'm
naturally a loud person, so I can just
project. I want to make sure everybody
at home can hear um because I was
listening [clears throat] at home at the
last meeting and it was very hard to
hear people um who were speaking. So,
um, so we wanted to just share a little
bit of background before we reveal our
new, um, logo for our elementary
schools. And the, uh, creator of the
logo is here, and we'll be able to talk
about it a little bit tonight. Um,
just kidding. Just kidding. Okay.
[snorts] So, back in May, the board
approved a name change for our two
elementary schools with the closure of
Danbury. Um, and you know, after the
year after um, Bridgewater Hebrin became
its own district, we were now only two
elementary schools. So instead of being
Bristol Elementary School which serves
the communities of Bristol, Alexandria
and Danbury and then New Hampton, the
decision by the board was made to go to
Newfan Elementary School at Bristol and
Newfan Elementary School at New Hampton.
And as an administrative team at that
time, we were trying to think of
something that um would sort of support
um the this like new shift in how we're
thinking about our two remaining
elementary schools. And so we came up
with the idea of having a logo contest
um and if at some point down the road
there is you know continued
reorganization or reconsolidation of the
schools and this would sort of service
that as well. So we launched a logo
contest in June um inviting students,
staff, community members, whoever wanted
to um to participate in the logo contest
and that was open until July 15th. So
there's about a month and a half for
people to um submit logos. We had 15
different logos submitted by seven
individuals in our community including
some parents and some staff members um
which was great to see uh you know
people who are part of our schools to
get involved. Um after the logo contest
was closed a Google form was created
with all of them and then a slideshow to
be able to see the logos more clearly.
This um was shared out via email, social
media, on the website. And so we ended
up having 166 different people or
different unique responses vote on the
logo contest. And so after we um
examined the results, it was clear uh
what the winning logo was going to be.
And so I'm going to invite um Sherea
Johnson, one of our employees, up to
talk about her beautiful logos.

So, um, the new found an and the bear
are kind of self-explanatory, but I
think the the biggest part of this are
the wild flowers for me. Um, there are
four wild flowers that represent the
four different towns that make up our
district. Um, and I specifically wanted
to include the daffodil as a nod to
Danbury and the daffodil n uh lane that
the school is on. Um, and just when I
think of wild flowers, I think of
resilience and strength, something that
our district has had to demonstrate as
the recent challenges has forced this um
merging of elementary schools. Um, and
there's also such a um an appreciation
for the unique qualities that make each
flower beautiful, just as each member of
our community has something unique to
offer. Um each flower is going to bloom
at its own pace much like our students
and throughout our district. Um our job
is to help nurture our students so that
they can grow and flourish as we move
forward together. So this logo is meant
to be a reflection of all of that.

Um, I know that our principles have, um,
been, I think, preparing to like order
some gear [clears throat] so that our
staff members and students will be able
to, um, have some great, uh, swag to,
what, what do the kids call it? Drip to
represent themselves. Matteo is rolling

>> Um, and we're really excited to move
into the new school year with this the
these beautiful new logos. So,

can order clothing?
>> Uh, not yet, but I can work with whoever
is in charge of doing that. Um, I don't
know. I know that I don't [laughter]
know. At the middle and high school, I
think that that goes through our
athletic coordinator and athletic
director. Um, at the elementary school,
though, I'm not really sure. I think
that that mostly has been like um
something that's been ordered by
principles.

>> well, I feel like cuz like when we were
there, I could go on and order stuff. It
would have just the regular new found,
but like it might say NHCS on it or
whatever. But so it was like the same
website, I think.

we'll make sure that the links go out to

>> Okay. Next financial report, treasures
report and budget updates.
>> So, not much this meeting. We we
[snorts] had a lot going on at the last
meeting. Um we have loaded recently um a
redistribution of the default budget uh
for all our departments to be able to
work off of. Um we're still going to be
going through um the FY27 department by
department um as we look at the needs
for this fiscal year. So in our in the
financial report your next meeting
generally I'll do one full financial
report um it will recognize the
distribution of funds across all
function levels and um show you where
we're standing right now to start the
year.
>> Okay. Did you have a question or
clarification? I thought you had a
question earlier about the financial.
[cough and clears throat]
>> Oh, hiring.
>> That was Yeah. But what
>> are we a full hiring freeze? What is is
it modified or is it what is it?
>> Um we're we're hiring any the for the
positions that we absolutely need. So we
never fully like if is for example um I
think we had an opening for case
manager. We're absolutely hiring for
those positions. um specifically ones
that we've fully budgeted for. Um okay,
>> I'm working with the food service
director. We should be meeting shortly.
There's a couple openings in his program
u once a part-time. So, we're we're
looking at that. We know there is a
structural deficit in in the two fiscal
years. And in this budget cycle, we are
the it is actually budgeted for the
general fund to support food services by
about $72,000.
Um and we'll be looking at staffing and
and trying to work with um them too.
>> Can I can I
>> Sure.
>> We were going to discuss a little bit
about the contract for the second shift
cleaning services.
>> Sure. Um, when we revamped, redesigned
the maintenance positions, it was kind
of alluded that some of that burden may
be overcome by our staff versus
contracted services.
Is there any segue in that? Can we maybe
reduce to one school and have the other
school take care of itself internally?
Is there any is there any sway in that?
So, we're looking at the shifts in
general. So, we brought on a new
facilities director. Y
>> um just a few weeks ago and he's having
to review contracts as they come in. So,
a lot of this was done and put into
place before um we got here um in July.
And I think we're we're going to do
coverages. We we we are contract we just
got the contract for services at um
Bristol Elementary School or the new
elementary school at Bristol
Elementary School at Bristol.

>> So, and then the new found high school.
So, we're high school.
>> I'm just abbreviating these things to
try to shorten the meeting time, but we

>> So, we are we know what we have. We we
have the contracts that were put in
place essentially and we're going to pro
most likely sign off on those
agreements. Um some of the job
descriptions for um lead custodian lead
custodians have been modified, but a lot
of that has to do with maintaining
facilities and grounds um and going to
um reducing your grounds force by two
people also. So, we're we want to
actually see how this is going to work.
>> Um because there's very few people in
the buildings already.
>> Um
>> ideally, we'd like to be fully staffed
with our own folks for continuity.
>> Um because there's not a lot of even
outsource resources up here in the first
place. So, um I'm going to let the
facilities director sink in.
>> Yeah. really get to know the folks that
are here um before we start advertising
for additional positions and and we're
going to define the shifts a little bit
better.
>> So, and I think some of them want us to
do that as well. So, he's getting his um
start. We have a lot of equipment and
residual contracts and and things that
he's pouring through. As you can
imagine, you walk into a new building,
we're we're even looking at the FY27
budget in lie of expenditures from prior
years and possibly them being accounted
for in different accounts that probably
you wouldn't budget for them in. So,
we're going through all of that to give
us a better understanding
um of our current cost and and then when
you add labor and job descriptions to
it,
>> I want him to get a feel for it and to
work with the employees too and say, you
know, what's really going
>> Yeah. So, that's going to take a little
bit of time.
>> That seems reasonable and what our
current bandwidth will allow, right?
Like that's
>> Yep. That makes sense.
>> So, we're [snorts] making room. You
know, one of the things those two items
that I just mentioned for um Bristol and
the high school were not in in the
budget. So that's 138,000 for for the
contract on those two resources.
>> So we're
that's what I mean by redistributing the
default budget, you know. [laughter]
>> Can we talk about where we are with the
contracts? Does that still have to go
through the teachers union? Um I so uh
right now the teachers contract we have
entered into negotiations so we're not
discussing that publicly. They've
engaged with us and I'm waiting to hear
back from them and their attorney.
All teachers have been issued a contract
for the current fiscal year if we that
is public information. So um and I think
we've had

think there's maybe two outstanding
contracts out of
>> one hand. I think on one hand you can
count.

We um we discussed with uh Mike about
the upcoming budget season with a
proposed budget schedule and calendar
and kind of his outline with us to
hopefully anticipate with a schoolboard
presentation on November 2nd a combined
meeting like we've done in the past. Um
and then we just kind of reviewed the
budget where we're at what the fund
balance was looking about. If I remember
correctly it was like 164,000.
And then um just kind of expectations
and kind of what we discussed at our
board meeting in July um was rehashed
but with with the budget committee
directly. Um and that he'll be trying to
get information and go over stuff with
them um more thoroughly and sooner than
in the past two years.

>> Um, usually the first meeting is always

the meeting, but we got through quite a
bit. There are some things that were um
move forward that we'll be voting on
tonight. Um, and we haven't scheduled

the fall when the next release comes
out.

committee hasn't had a meeting. Uh,

reported out last time that they're

they have to meet uh towards the end of
the year.

>> Okay. Transportation committee. We got
to set up a meeting.
>> So I I reached out to Charlie Lyle. I
reached out to first student just to
figure out what the impetus with the
transportation committee was with the
reorganization right. It was to look at
you know how do we better you know
bus
>> at this point since things are on pause
and the bus schedules have been created
using you know the software that you
know tells you the best route.
>> Versatrance.
>> Versatran. So, we're good. I I don't
know that we necessarily need to spark
up the build the transportation
committee. Michael and I are going to uh
have a conversation with Charlie Lyall
who brought forward to hear his ideas
and thoughts before we you know create a
full-on you know
>> part of it too was to discuss wasn't
just to discuss the merger. It was also
just to oversee because it's such a big
part of the budget to oversee that kind
of expenditure. Is there different
things that we can modify? Can we make
changes? Um, how are we using the vans
that we're not using? That was the
precipitous for the transportation
committee. It wasn't just to do to look
at the just specifically routes, but um,
but to kind of look at those other
pieces of that as well and to just kind
of it was more to have a group that can
kind of dig into that more versus big
picture like budget committee.
>> Great. So, we should get one between now
and the end of the month.
>> Of August. Not August or September.
Okay. Yeah, sounds good.
>> So, yes, that was where that was where
the impetus of that kind of
transportation
>> and to see if we could reduce the number
of buses because we have such minimal
>> participants that utilize them. That
was, if I remember correctly, Charlie,
that was one of his sticking points.
>> Yeah, it's I I mean, even working here
for um in the past,
>> it's always been a question. I I can't
every year that I worked here seven
years prior. Every year someone would
ask that question because there's always
going to be a bus that drives by you
that's empty or has two kids in it.
>> Um it's part of the nature of the
footprint of this region.
>> We are very Yeah. Grten all the way to
Meredith pretty much. Right. So almost
the borders of Plymouth and Meredith. So
to pick up the number of kids we pick up
to get them to school on time with the
routes that we've got. Um we do use
software to route those. We do review
those with the um directors of the
program. Um even last year though we had
complaints about one I forget the
school. Um but kids were getting dropped
off late even with the number of buses
we had which I believe is 12. So
the optic um we don't build plans for
optics. we explain them publicly. Um,
part of the concern is is like, do you
go with a smaller bus to make it look
better? Um, but then we lose the ability
to charter that bus. So, the driver, the
asset that the the cost is already
incorporated into it. So, for us, it's
if I can get a better use of a bigger
bus, I'm not going to just change it
for, you know, a social media post. Just
doesn't make sense.
And all those things will be teased out
in the transportation.
>> Right. Well, Paul's you looked at one
and it was an after school bus from
Danbury.
>> He mentioned this spring there was only
one kid on it.
>> So, we did away with it.
>> And and we will
>> they did reduce a route.
>> Y
>> for this year too.
>> Um some things though that you brought
up like the use of the vans. um our our
uh the principal here at the high school
will be working with special ed to do
interim um life skills um trips to
reduce that cost um and utilize those
better. Uh so there are things we can do
with transportation that will will
improve financially. Um we also looking
at you know where we're bringing some of
these students and partnering with other
school districts. If you we've talked a
little bit about consolidation, do you
utilize this high school as a partner in
transportation, bringing kids here, also
bringing in revenue to the school
district? So, this is something we
should always be thinking about having a
committee, you know, just highlights it
more publicly. So, it's not a bad idea.
>> Perfect.
um and negotiations committee. We heard
just a little while ago that we are um
awaiting to set up a meeting and enter
into negotiations with union for
contracts and proceed forward with that
work.

questions. I want to ask them quickly.
Melissa, you made a comment about the
year end figure. Do we have a formal
year end June 30th yet? I heard you say
$134,000.
>> I said approximately 164ish.
>> 164. Is that plus or minus?
>> Plus a little bit.
>> We're the estimate right now. We have
not closed out the 2026 fiscal year is
approximately 164,000 plus for fund
balance to be specific. Um we have not
made all of our correcting journal
entries yet. It's not being has had
that's not an audited figure. It is
purely an estimate based on year-to-
date expenditures and where we were from
our last audit in 2024.
>> Thank you. I also briefly glanced this
afternoon at the budget committee um
minutes and there were no attachments of
any financial information you may have
given them when they met. Were there any
financial reports given?
>> They were meeting to discuss their
agenda. If you look at the agenda for
the meeting, um the only item I gave
them was a schedule that we share with
the board um which shows the um school
districts um admin teams um setup for
starting the budgeting process meeting
within that time frame and I gave them a
list of the state requirements for
posting so that we're all on time
together
and and I think their minutes reflect
the rest of the meeting.

adjustments [clears throat] to the
default budget. I just want to point out
that there is a new state law that says
the budget committee is responsible for
default budgets at from this point
forward. So the budget committee should
be part of those uh changes and those
discussions about the budget. Um if you
want to review that law. Next question I
have is on my way in here. Um, I noticed
several air conditioners, room window
air conditioners on. Um, it's 69 degrees
now
50s. We're facing literally almost
bankruptcy. Why are we running air
conditioners before school started when
it's, you know, they might not be
cooling, but they're still running fans?
Number one. And number two, do we still
have that $4,000 New York Times digital
contractor? Is that been cancelled that
only a handful of people ever use?
Mostly teachers.
