The Instructional Committee met on 12/4/25 regarding curriculum updates. A pilot of the Xello career and college tool will launch in 9th grade English and 6th grade homerooms. Members will set up accounts, explore the platform, and open the family portal. MCS Math interventionist roles are being re-assigned based on student needs. Meredith Brown requested approval for two new Social Studies courses for freshmen starting with the class of 2030: "New Hampshire: Land, People, and Identity" and "Principles of Business." Full proposals with options for updating the Program of Studies, including embedded credits to avoid hiring new staff, are set for the January School Board meeting for approval. Christina Touhey proposed transitioning HS Math from printed workbooks to digital resources including IM and Open Stacks, also seeking approval in January. Heidi and Eric now have accounts set up to see details Videos giving an overview of Xello Students take an interest survey to help them explore career options that would fit their personality and interests. ILC can also use this information to help organize career talks during PAWs that fit student interests and target recruiting more specifically. It can also be used for career related field trips for students to help them take the best advantage of opportunities. Additional information from MCS Principal Social Studies Proposal 1:15 Meredith Brown, Dept Chair ● Social Studies proposal ● HS Graduation Requirements New Course: New Hampshire: Land, People, and Identity The Social Studies department also needs to develop a plan with for freshmen only to begin the changes to the new pathways to 4.5 credits for students beginning in the year of graduation 2030. New Course: Principles of Business: This course combines Business Management and Entrepreneurship and Marketing in an E-Commerce World. ● The three courses will be combined to pair down the electives for Business as the current Business teacher is also certified in Social Studies. Having fewer electives in the Business department will allow for the business teacher to start picking up additional sections of Social Studies classes. If the Social Studies department continues to offer 4.5 credits, they may need to hire another part-time teacher in the future or eliminate more business classes. embedded credits so that additional staff are not needed.
