August 4, 2026 Advisory Board of Assessors meeting (minutes)
The Advisory Board of Assessors meeting opened at 11:32 a.m. on August 4, 2026. The Board approved minutes from the June 10, 2026 meeting via a motion by Brighton, seconded by Roberto. Regarding tabled abatements, Roberto moved to approve recommendations as written, seconded by Brighton, with all voting in favor. The Board granted three abatements: $98,300 for Clarkson (ID: 2-97-1), $374,600 for Dent (ID: 47-75-1), and $200,400 for Barnhart-Trust (ID: 38-49-1). The Board denied abatements for Lewis Family Trust (ID: 1-16-19) and New Hampshire SNF 1 LLC (ID: 46-17-1). New Business included a discussion on determining whether to continue the Advisory Board of Assessors. Advisory Board of Assessors – minutes 41 South Main Street – Board Room Tuesday August 4, 2026 – 11:30 a.m. Meeting called to order 11:32 a.m. I. Introduction of Board and Staff – John Brighton – Chairperson, Joe Roberto, Joanna Whitcomb – Selectboard representative, Bob McCarthy – Whitney Group consultants, Jerry Roberts. II. Assessment hearing process explained - Each applicant is given the opportunity to present new information not included in the application. The Board reviews all the information supplied by the applicant and that of the Assessor before making their decision. The Board’s recommendation is presented to the Selectboard for approval. If following the Advisory Board of Assessor recommendation, the applicant is not happy with the outcome they have the option of filing an appeal beyond the local level to the Board of Tax and Land Appeal or the Grafton County Superior Court. III.
